CONTINUING EDUCATION & SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 

Below you will find a list of Fermenta continuing education opportunities that are offered at this time. Please review the requirements and details for each offering before you apply.

Requirements for Fermenta Continuing Education Opportunities:

  • You must be female, 21 years of age and a current Active Member of Fermenta.
  • Applications must be received by the deadline listed.
  • Only one application per member per opportunity will be accepted.
  • Members may only win once per Scholarship category (Beginner or Entry Level, Continuing Education, Certifications & Conferences) every 12 month period. Within 12 months, you are eligible to win multiple scholarships, as long as each scholarship is in a unique category.
  • Scholarships not used within 12 months of receipt will be forfeit.
  • Recipients must provide feedback of the experience to Fermenta in the form of a written report, online blog, photo album, in-person presentation, or other mutually agreed upon format.
  • Rights to publish such report and photographs of the winner are granted to Fermenta.
  • Board Members and Scholarship Committee Members are ineligible to win

1. Brewing and Distillation Technology – Fall class at Schoolcraft College

Date: Starting 8/27/18 Wednesdays 4:00 – 8:00 pm

This is a 15 week 4 credit course

Location:  Schoolcraft College, Livonia MI

Application Deadline: July 9, 2018

This course is designed to cover concepts of biology, biochemistry, chemistry and physics that are key to brewing and distillation processes. Special attention will be given to the biology, chemistry and physics of the brewing process, including enzymatic and biochemical reactions associated with malting, mashing, fermentation and maturation.

The byproducts of cellular metabolism, chemical reactions and physical processes that influence flavor development and flavor defects in finished craft beverages will be explored.

2. BeerSavvy® interactive eLearning program covering key content for the Certified Beer Server exam (scholarship includes cost of exam)

Date: Starts when Fermenta sign up you- content available for 90 days (eLearning program takes approximately 8 hours to complete)

Location:  online (BeerSavvy is not optimized for use on mobile devices)

Application Deadline: July 9, 2018

This scholarship includes:  Costs of taking the Certified Beer Server exam, online eLearning program through BeerSavvy, and set of Styles flash card.

Becoming a Certified Beer Server is the first level of Cicerone.  Learn the fundamentals: beer clean glassware, a proper pour, proper beer handling. Become the server who can talk to guests about beer styles and flavors. Be prepared to serve today’s wide range of beers.

BeerSavvy’s eLearning program covers all the key content you need to pass the exam. 

  • Explore screens let users discover content on their own initiative
  • Videos highlight hands-on topics
  • Narrated animations enliven the history and culture of beer
  • Periodic quizzes check key learning points
