Below you will find a list of Fermenta Scholarship opportunities that are offered at this time. Please review the requirements and details for each offering before you apply.

Requirements:

  • You must identify as female and be a current Active Fermenta member.
  • To apply for the Bertie Brown scholarship, must be BIPOC.
  • Applications must be received by midnight of the deadline listed.
  • Only one application per member per opportunity will be accepted.
  • In order to allow more members to benefit, the committee will give preference to applicants who have not been awarded a scholarship in the same category in the previous 12 month period. Within 12 months, you are still eligible to win multiple scholarships, as long as each scholarship is in a unique category.
  • Scholarships not used within 12 months of receipt will be forfeited.
  • Recipients must provide feedback of the experience to Fermenta in the form of a written report, online blog, photo album, in-person presentation, or other mutually agreed upon format.
  • Rights to publish such report and photographs of the winner are granted to Fermenta.
  • Board Members and Scholarship Committee Members are ineligible to win.
  • While looking at applications, members of the Scholarship Committee do not see the name of the applicant.

Bertie Brown $200 in Scholarship Funds

Are you a woman of color working in the fermented food or beverage industries?* Could you use a scholarship to help with the costs of conferences, classes, or continued education?

Apply for the Bertie Brown Scholarship. It provides up to $200 to assist with tuition, materials, conferences, or any other professional expenses. Any woman of color who is an active member of Fermenta is eligible. This scholarship will be offered continuously (no deadline) as long as there are funds available and eligible applicants! 

If you haven’t joined Fermenta and money is tight, let us know - scholarship backers will fund as many new BIPOC members as we can.

HOP CAMP!

Accepting Applications

MI LOCAL HOPS is hosting HOP CAMP!

Hop Camp is August 28 & 29, at Mi Local Hops In Williamsburg (near Traverse City), and will include the following, for you and a guest!

A comprehensive tour of the hop farm and processing facility.

A hop sensory class.

A tour of Empire Malting Company.

Camping at Mi Local's farm.*

A $100 stipend towards travel expenses and food purchase for the weekend. (Camping is free.)

EDUCATION! FUN! CAMARADERIE!

*(Travel to Hop Camp is not included. Please follow "more info" link below for camping details.)

This scholarship is an Entry Level scholarship, and is open to all Fermenta members. If you have won an Entry Level scholarship in the past year and wish to apply, please do!

National Homebrew Con On-Line

NATIONAL HOMEBREW CON ON-LINE June 17 – 19, 2021

“Join your fellow homebrewers online for top-notch educational content, virtual meet-ups and happy hours, sponsored demonstrations, and awards presentations!”

Homebrew Con 2021 Online: Three days of 20+ live seminars, meet-ups, and sponsored demos. All seminars are online and will be accessible after the event.

Option 2:

If you are not a current member of the AHA -

AHA Membership + Homebrew Con 2021 Online: Includes one-year digital membership to the American Homebrewers Association (AHA)** with Homebrew Con 2021 Online registration.

$500 Towards Tuition in a Fermentation Program, Course or Class

If you are currently enrolled in a brewing, distillation, or wine-making program, OR if you are considering enrolling, consider applying for this scholarship!  This scholarship awards up to $500 toward a program, course or class, online or in person, for Spring, Summer or Fall 2021. The class must be about fermentation (i.e. brewing, distillation, wine making, mead making, sake brewing kombucha etc) or a course specific to the craft beverage industry (i.e. brewery marketing, brewery management, etc.)

This scholarship will pay for (or reimburse you if you’ve already paid) up to $500, not to exceed the cost of the course.  (Receipts required for reimbursement.)

Examples of in-person programs (but not limited to) are Schoolcraft College Brewing & Distillation Technology, EMU Fermentation Science, KVCC Sustainable Brewing Certificate, GRCC Brewing Certificate etc.

Examples of on-line programs (but not limited to) are Siebel Institute/WBA, The IBD’s General Certificate in Brewing or Distillation, American Brewers Guild, UC Davis Continuing Education on-line brewing courses, White Labs Fermentation “on demand” courses, CSW on-line course (Napa Valley Wine Academy), Cider Institute of America etc.

Cicerone Certification Program

This scholarship is for the Cicerone® Certification Program’s BeerSavvy® On-line. This course is a series of lectures that prepares you to take the Certified Beer Server exam, and includes the exam.

“BeerSavvy® Online uses videos, activities, and quizzes to lead you through eight professionally-designed course modules. You’ll proceed at your own pace. You have a full 90 days to complete the course. You can complete the modules in any order and repeat them as many times as you like. When you’re ready, take the included Certified Beer Server exam to earn your first Cicerone certification.”

Title Track & We the People's "Understanding Racial Justice"

Siebel Institute/World Brewing Academy Specialized Lectures
